Avontuur

Our partner Timbercoast has been transporting cargo by sail across the world’s oceans since 2016 with their sailing vessel ‘Avontuur’ (Dutch for „Adventure“). The team, led by founder Cornelius Bockermann, spent two years restoring the 44-meter long cargo ship, originally built in 1920, to fulfill their dream of ‘Mission Zero’. This mission aims to reduce emissions throughout the entire value chain of products, demonstrating that global trade is possible through alternative, eco-friendly means.

With a professional crew of 5-6 sailors, the ‘Avontuur’ sails twice a year through wind and weather, transporting cargo between the Americas and Europe in a sustainable way. Additionally, the ship offers space for 10 „Shipmates“ to experience this unique sustainable sailing adventure.

The motto ‘Cargo under Sails’ symbolizes a revolution in global trade and a return to proven, low-emission transport methods. The use of wind power for transporting goods presents a meaningful alternative to conventional, fuel-powered ships and promotes both ecological and economic sustainability.

For the TEIKEI project, the use of the ‘Avontuur’ represents an important step in expanding the vision of a sustainable supply chain. In addition to routes through the Mediterranean, the ship will also start calling at major port cities in the North and Baltic Seas, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, London, Oslo, and Helsinki, to decentralize the transportation of goods and further reduce the ecological footprint of transport in both the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

A crowdfunding initiative will help cover the costs of sail transport between various ports in the Mediterranean, North Sea, and Baltic Sea, contributing to the sustainable logistics of the entire TEIKEI project.

You can catch a glimpse of this vision in our project introduction on Vimeo, which includes English subtitles.
